How Ultimate Floor Care cleans upholstery

Identify the fabric
We check the cleaning code and test an unseen area first. Some fabrics cannot take water at all, and finding that out on the cushion is too late.

Lift the dry soil
Dry soil and hair come out before any moisture goes on, because wetting them first sets them into the weave.

Pre-treat and extract
A pH-neutral pre-treatment goes on the arms, headrests and seat fronts, then extraction pulls it and the soil back out.

Groom and air
The pile is groomed back in one direction and we move air across the piece before we leave.

Why upholstery ages

What actually marks a sofa, and why it shows on the arms first

Most of what dulls a sofa is body oil rather than dirt: it transfers to the arms, headrests and seat fronts, then holds onto every bit of dust that lands on it. That is why those three areas darken long before the rest of the piece. In Phoenix, direct sun through a window does the other half of the work, fading the side of the sofa that faces it.

The limit

Sun fading is permanent and cleaning will not bring the color back. Some fabrics, particularly older silks and certain viscose blends, cannot take water-based cleaning at all. We test before we start and tell you if the answer is no.

Upholstery carries a cleaning code, and it is the first thing we look for. W means water-based cleaning is fine. S means solvent only. X means vacuum only, and no amount of skill changes that.

We test an unseen part of the piece before starting even when the code says water is fine, because the code describes the fabric and not what has already been spilled on it.

What does a sectional cost?

Sectionals start at $150 and the final figure depends on the size of the piece. We confirm it when we see it, before any work starts, so the quote and the invoice match.

Do you clean dining chairs and ottomans?

Yes. Smaller pieces are quoted alongside whatever else is being done, so it is worth mentioning them when you book.

Can you get pet hair out of a sofa?

Yes, and it comes out dry, before any moisture goes near the piece. Wetting hair first works it into the weave and makes it harder to lift.

Will cleaning remove sun fading?

No. Fading is pigment loss in the fiber itself, so there is nothing to clean off. We will say so when we look at the piece rather than take the job and disappoint you.

How do I know whether my fabric can be cleaned?

There is usually a cleaning code on a tag under the cushion or on the base of the frame. We check it and test an unseen area before starting. If the answer is that it cannot be wet-cleaned, we tell you.
